The History of Home of Joy
Grace Yan, director of HOJ, used to volunteer at the Shenyang Municipal Orphanage, which is a government run orphanage. Grace helped to nurse a dying little girl back to health. Through this experience Grace received two things. First is a daughter, Hope, she adopted the little girl. Second, Grace received a knowledge and desire to meet the great need of special needs orphans. In October 1996 Grace opened the Home of Joy as a non-profit charitable institution providing assistance to handicapped and orphaned children. About 110 surgeries or major medical interventions have been financially supported and long term care has been provided to 55 children since Home of Joy's establishment. More than 20 of these children meanwhile have been adopted overseas.
Goals of Home of Joy
- Create an environment to help the disabled orphans survive. - Provide the special care that the disabled orphans are in need of. - Provide tender, loving care and bring joy to the children's lives. - Provide proper education so that these orphans can be well brought up and maybe one day be able to stand on their own. - Help to find good adoptive parents for each of these children.
Future Plans
Continue and extend the care, so that more disadvantaged and handicapped children can receive such help. It is her hope, that more and more people will have the desire to be involved in this work of serving those children. Grace wishes to find homes for these kids - forever families for every child. Please let us know if you know of anyone interested in helping or wanting to adopt these children.
